Finalist Details
Paul Bartlett has dedicated his life to advocating for the Deaf community. Growing up Deaf, he faced communication challenges that shaped his vision for a world where Deaf individuals and those with disability have equal opportunities. His global work with Deaf and hearing colleagues enriched his understanding of Deaf culture, fuelling his passion for advocacy.
In 2020, Paul founded Communication eXtra, a Deaf-led organisation offering Support Coordination services to Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Deafblind participants and those with communication disability.
One success story involves a participant with significant communication barriers. Through a consistent and dedicated effort with assistive technologies and strategies, the participant gained confidence enhancing his communication. This reduced isolation and re-engaged him in the community and employment, along with rebuilding relationships with family and friends - transforming their lives.
