Finalist Details
GRP Speech Pathology is a mobile practice that began in Melbourne and now has expanded across Victoria, while also offering nationwide services via telehealth. Since its inception, GRP has delivered over 80,000 services to over 1,500 people with disability and communication challenges. Focused on empowerment and a people-first approach, GRP tailors both client care and clinician career paths. Every team member holds a Master's in Speech Pathology, specialising in functional skill development for clients with conditions such as cerebral palsy and chromosomal disorders.
GRP have expanded access to their services for those in gaols, as well as remote areas and communities through various initiatives, including the Indigenous Allied Health Outreach program. Telehealth services expand access to their pioneering solutions regardless of location, behavioural concerns and presentation. The practice's functional approach emphasises real-life goals, like independent communication in public, rather than repetitive tasks.
One success story features a remarkable young man with a rare chromosomal disorder. His journey, from developing storytelling skills to becoming a chef's hand - who has now presented to a live audience - reflects GRP's commitment to nurturing independence through adaptive support. His story is a powerful reminder of the impact of persistence, adaptive learning methods, the transformative power of tailored support and nurturing someone's strengths in their pursuit of independence and self-expression.
